Hamsa the 6 paintings series

Hamsa Hand: the symbol of the hand (Hamsa, Semitic root meaning five) in Mediterranean cultures is ancient. There are speculations that the Jews were among the first to use it as a protective amulet. The hand symbolizes the Creator's protective hand, and is at times decorated with an eye (the Creators watchful eye).

It serves as an ancient talismanic way of averting and getting protection from the evil eye, or more generally of providing a "protecting hand" or "Hand of God".

Hamsa - The number five in Numerology

The five is the symbolic number of the human being. The human micro cosmos. It represents the four limbs and the head (which governs them). It also represents the four fingers and the thumb. The Pentagon, being infinite, shares the symbolism of perfection and the power of the circle. Five is a circular number because it reproduces itself when multiplied by itself(5*5=25 which includes five). Like the circle, the pentagram symbolizes the whole. The five, being a central number is a meeting point between heaven and Earth plus the center. It also symbolizes the God as a creator of the four principle powers. In the Chinese tradition there are five elements.
